Letter from the Editor: Building Community Through Storytelling

Hello friends, colleagues, and fellow alumni,

I have always been fascinated by what binds people together and how communities take shape. From the beginning of human history, community has been at the core of our survival and progress governing how we share knowledge, build institutions, and shape culture.

Today, technology gives us the ability to connect across borders like never before. Yet many of us feel more disconnected from our communities than ever. Social media, though powerful, often reduces connection to a performance measured in likes and fleeting impressions rather than meaningful engagement.

That is why we created Canadian Alumni. Our mission is to strengthen community through storytelling, the oldest and most enduring way we share knowledge, preserve identity, and build belonging. Unlike the fragmented, fleeting style of social media, Canadian Alumni blends the depth of long-form content with the reach of digital platforms to create a more intentional and lasting experience.

We begin our journey with the Royal Military College Alumni Association. Content will be created for alumni of Canada’s military colleges, segmented by class to ensure a more personal and relevant connection. If you don’t yet see stories from your class, please reach out. We would be honoured to help develop them or share submissions on your behalf.

As a graduate myself, I believe it is these stories that truly shape the military college experience. We invite you to read, share, and contribute to help build a community rooted not in algorithms, but in connection, memory, and meaning.

Truth Duty Valour.
