Glenn Clarke
Biography
Downhill skiing has been a big part of my life and was a motivational factor in going to MilCol. The recruiting officer told me if I went to Roads, I could ski all winter in the Rockies. I maxed out the amount of time on those hills together with Sandy and Ach -better still that Grant even set us up with ‘free’ Whistler accommodation at his Aunt’s place. At RMC, the downhill racing team allowed for more skiing together with Robertson. And I met Deb in Kingston -yes she skied too and we’ve had some great ski trips out west in the past 45 years.
With a CivEng degree and MILE training, I was lucky enough to lead numerous major construction projects both within DND (the design and building of the 36 Short Range Radar Sites across the Arctic, and as Project Mgr for the Militia Training Centre in Meaford).
My second career started in 1994 with the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board. That job, looking after the planning, facilities and operations was exceptional as this area north of TO was one of the fastest growing in Canada and we built over $500M for 46 new schools. I was also active with the provincial school board association, along with working on Ontario’s ExpertPanel in developing the new Construction Act. I still provide consulting support to school boards with their capital and construction plans.
When it’s not good kayaking /Laser sailing /windsurfing / mountain biking weather I’m quite busy rebuilding an old cottage on Sawlog Bay. Deb and I have two wonderful daughters, along with their partners, who live in Winnipeg and Vancouver. And yes, like their old dad -they love the thrill of fresh deep powder on the mountain!
