Biography
I applied to RMC as a joke. I wanted to be a doctor. At Roads, I expected to become an engineer. I left Roads on March 28, 1968, after long talks with the Commandant and with the support of the Principal and Registrar, to try to get into Queen’s medicine. I didn’t get into medicine, but I did get into Queen’s. After the heavy course load at Roads, I took a lot of courses and graduated in three years with more than 25 credits and a double major in Economics and Computer Science.
Joining the Royal Bank, I spent two years in Ontario branches and then worked in Head Office Systems in Montreal. Later, I traded foreign exchange. In 1977, I moved to Toronto with CIBC and later joined BNS. In 1993, I started EN-TECH Associates, consulting in office automation technologies, deployment, and later emerging technologies. Altogether, I spent more than 28 years in and around banking.
Married twice, I have two daughters and two grandsons. When I went to Roads, I had no RMC connections, but my grandsons do: they are the great-grandsons of 2138 Lt.-Col. G.M. Billings, the nephews of 10077 Mike Billings, and their great-uncle was Dr. Eric Graham, our Principal at Roads. It’s a small world.
I retired in 2012 and moved from Oakville to Nova Scotia in 2015. I now enjoy a wonderful view of the Gut overlooking the Annapolis Basin at Digby, just two minutes from the Saint John ferry. Anyone wanting a cuppa and a bite is welcome.
During my life, nothing has made me prouder than being accepted to Roads and becoming a member of the Class of ’71.
